About Ashlar

The website design, visibility and automation agency for Trowbridge and Wiltshire.

I’m Samuel Simmonds, founder of Ashlar. I built the business for local companies that are excellent at what they do, but whose online presence does not reflect the quality of their work. By combining thoughtful design, conversion-focused websites and practical search optimisation, I make it easier for the right customers to find you, see the work quality and take the next step.

Wiltshire based. Founder led. Built directly with clients.

Why Ashlar exists

Good local businesses lose work because their online presence lets them down.

Your website is often a potential customer’s first impression of your business. Before they call, visit or request a quote, your website and Google presence shape what they expect from your business.

Too many good local businesses lose opportunities because their online presence feels outdated, is difficult to find or makes the next step unclear. Ashlar exists to close that gap, making your business easier to find, easier to trust and easier to book.

A website on its own does not win work. Visibility is what makes it findable — in local search, in Google's map results, and in the AI answers people increasingly read instead of clicking through. Automation is what makes it useful once it is found: enquiries that reach you properly, bookings that do not need a phone call, reminders and follow-ups that happen without you chasing them. Ashlar builds those together, because a site that looks good and does neither is an expensive brochure.

I work across Wiltshire and the west — Trowbridge, Westbury, Melksham, Chippenham, Warminster, Devizes, Salisbury and Swindon — as well as Bath and Bristol. Most of the work happens over email and video, so where you are matters less than whether the fit is right.

The ASHLAR standards

Better websites start with better decisions.

01

Websites built around outcomes.

Before anything is designed, we agree what the website needs to achieve. Whether that is more enquiries, better-quality leads, more bookings or stronger local visibility. Every decision is measured against that goal.

02

Clear communication without the technical jargon

You’ll always know what’s being built, why it matters to your business and what I need from you to keep the project moving.

03

Built around the way your business works.

Your website is designed to be suited around your services, customers and day-to-day operation, rather than forcing your business into a generic template. It supports how you work now and can adapt as the business grows.

What working together feels like

Plain English

No jargon curtain. You'll know what's being done, why it matters and what happens next.

One person, start to finish

You speak to the person doing the work. No account managers, no hand-offs, no diluted brief.

No lock-in

Your site, your domain, your accounts. Care plans are month-to-month and have to keep earning their place.

Before you get in touch

Good fit, better results.

Ashlar works best with service businesses that value clarity, quality and a proper job over quick hacks.

  • Trade and home service businesses
  • Professional service businesses
  • Established local businesses ready to grow
  • Owners who want the website to actually pull its weight
Common questions

Before you get in touch.

Do I have to buy everything at once?

No. Most people start with a review or the audit and decide from there. Each step is its own decision — you only take the next one when it's worth it.

I already have a website. Is it a full rebuild?

Not necessarily. Sometimes the quickest wins are small fixes to what you've got. The audit tells you honestly whether a rebuild is worth it or not.

What do you actually need from me?

An hour or so to talk through your business, access to your existing accounts, and your real photos and reviews. I handle the technical side.

Can you work with businesses near me?

I work with local service businesses across Trowbridge, Wiltshire, Bath and Bristol, and remotely further afield. Most of the work happens over email and calls, so location is rarely a blocker.

Will I be able to update the site myself?

Yes. It's your site and your accounts. I'll show you how to make everyday changes, and the care plan is there if you'd rather hand the upkeep over — but you're never locked in.

What is a booking-ready website?

A booking-ready website is one a new customer can find on Google, trust at a glance, and use to book or get in touch in a couple of taps. It means your website, your Google Business Profile and local search working together, so more enquiries actually arrive.
